Property professionals are training for a dash to Cannes in March. Mark Simmons invites more to take part
If you spot a cyclist hammering down your local byway in the next few weeks, take a closer look. It may not be just a fitness addict, but one of your colleagues training for a trek to the south of France. A relay cycle team is just one of the many entries for next year’s MIPIM Transport Challenge.
Property professionals from around the UK and Europe will be setting off from London using a multitude of different transport modes, like the Edwardian Monarch racing car (pictured above). They will be heading for the annual property event in Cannes, which celebrates its 10th birthday between Thursday March 11 and Sunday March 14.
Accompanied by Estates Gazette staff, travellers will leave London from Saturday March 6 onwards. The experiences en route will be presented in a special EG feature.
The event highlights the importance of transport policy in urban planning. By examining differing fuel costs, running costs, journey times, comfort, cleanliness, impact on the environment and ease of use, we aim to focus on some of the key issues of UK and European transport policy.
The event has its fun side, too. A ceremonial starting pistol launch in London’s West End on March 5 will be followed by a lunchtime reception. And for the participants, there will be a reception and prize-giving ceremony at the MIPIM gala opening evening.
The Transport Challenge should generate substantial media coverage. Estates Gazette is looking for companies to provide volunteers to travel and sponsorship for their chosen mode of transport. The journey can be sponsored for the charity of your choice. For information, call PR agency Tamesis, which is organising the event.
