The one-bedroom city-centre flat, assumed by some to have fallen victim to the pandemic, is making a comeback as renters look for smaller homes in the hope of saving money.
Across the UK, rents have risen 12.1% over the past year, according to Zoopla, the online property portal, taking the average up to a record £1,078 per calendar month, with the average renter spending 35% of their salary on accommodation.
Because of this “growing unaffordability”, Richard Donnell, executive director at Zoopla, said that there had been a “jump” in the number of people inquiring about one-bedroom flats.
