One in 10 pupils in the UK is studying in schools that need to be rebuilt.
The National Audit Office warned on Wednesday that the condition of English school buildings was declining after a decade of underinvestment. It added that the chances of a fatal collapse were now high.
Funding for repairs and reconstruction has been less than half the amount requested by the Department for Education from the Treasury.
