Only minor changes will need to be made to people’s daily lives to achieve climate change targets, according to the former prime minister.
A new report by Tony Blair’s think-tank has said that emissions savings would not require a reduction in living standards and that plane travel per person would only need to fall by 6% by 2035.
However, the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change added that 60% of cars would have to be electric by the same date, and 40% of homes would need to have switched to low-carbon heating systems.
In a direct snub to groups such as Extinction Rebellion, the report added: “It is not the case that net zero requires total transformation in all aspects of our lives.”
