Orbit Developments has unveiled details of its plans for a £70m leisure and retail scheme next to the Lowry Centre arts complex at Salford Quays near Manchester.
To be known as The Lowry Galleria, the scheme will be anchored by Warner Village Cinemas, which plans to build a multiplex on the site.
The development will also inlcude a four-star hotel, a string of wharfside restaurants and bars, a space-age family entertainment complex, a health club and a range of upmarket retail outlets.
The 46,450 sq m (500,000 sq ft) Galleria will also include luxury rooftop apartments, offices, pedestrian travelators and underground car parking.
Orbit managing director Stan Annison said: “We believe the Galleria will become a new, top quality national and international destination for people from every walk of life. This development is the shape of things to come in the 21st century – integrating a mixture of culture, leisure, entertainment, business and residential developments on a single, urban site as a spearhead for regeneration.”
The project has the full backing of Salford Council. The opening date is scheduled for 2000.
