Ordnance Survey to deliver maps by e-mail

The Ordnance Survey (OS) can now supply maps for planning applications by e-mail. An extension of its Siteplan scheme, which provides the mandatory six copies of detailed mapping required by most planning authorities, allows instant delivery of maps in digital format.

Under the new system, customers supply the address and postcode of the site to one of the organisations Superplan or Siteplan agents. The agent can call up the map on screen and transfer it via e-mail. The mapping shows close-ups of existing buildings and features on a site.

The maps are paid for with a one-off fee that includes a 12-month license. Prices start at £25.

· The OS made an £8.1m trading profit before exception items and interest, on a turnover of £99.6m according to its annual report, published today. “The money will be re-invested in improving our data, equipment and service to cusomers and staff training,” said Vanessa Lawrence, OS Director General and Chief Executive.

The OS web site is located at: http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk.
