The original Tate Gallery on a 2.4ha (6 acre) site in Streatham, SW16, has been bought by Barratt Homes and CPS Management for a residential scheme, to be known as Tate Gardens. The housebuilder plans to build 23 townhouses on the site of the gallery, which dates from around 1790 and was later established as the first Tate Gallery by Sir Henry Tate. Barratt will also convert an 18th-century listed villa into seven apartments and a house. A range of outbuildings will be converted to make three houses, while a further three homes will be added around a courtyard at the rear of the villa.
