Orion and Pears to build 485-home Watford scheme

A joint venture between Orion and Pears Group has been granted planning consent for a mixed-use, 485-home scheme on Ascot Road in Watford, Hertfordshire.

Some 35% of the units will be affordable. The scheme will also supply 186 car and 575 cycle parking spaces in an undercroft parking area.

Plans also call for restaurants, cafés, shops and space dedicated for community use along a pedestrianised boulevard, as well as new public space, including woodland gardens, a tree-lined walk and landscaped areas.

This is the first proposal to come forward under the Croxley View and Ascot Road masterplan and one of the first to realise the council’s policy on taller buildings.

Richard Olsen, chairman of Orion, said: “The Ascot Road scheme will bring benefits to the local economy and more than 700 new jobs will be created, a minimum of 60% of which will be for local people.

“We share the council’s vision for ambitious growth in Watford, securing its position as a significant regional hub.”
