George Osborne has cited Help to Buy as an example of “flexibility” and “credibility” in matters of the economy.
The chancellor used this as an example of how he had responded to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) last year. He said he had taken extra measures to support Britain’s economy which meant he had not chased the debt target. Osborne’s comment followed the announcement that Fitch had stripped the UK of its triple A credit rating – just days after the IMF raised doubts about the pace of the deficit reduction strategy.
