Revolution Bars, the owner of 76 bars across the UK, has suffered a drop in like-for-like sales and fallen into the red after the hot summer and England’s run to the World Cup semi-finals lured customers to pubs with beer gardens and TVs instead.
Like-for-like sales fell 0.6% in the 12 months to the end of June, with a 1.9% increase in the first half offset by a 5% drop in the second half of the year. Revolution’s bars do not have big screens or significant outside areas.
The company took exceptional charges of £11.1m on top of a slight decline in underlying profits. It reported a pre-tax loss of £3.6m.
