The first purpose-built concert venue in Edinburgh for more than 100 years has been given the go ahead.
The £75m Dunard Centre will be the home of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and is the biggest venue to be built in the Scottish capital since Usher Hall in 1914.
The 1,000-capacity venue is being funded by the UK and Scottish governments to the tune of £10m each and is set to be built between St Andrew Square and St James Quarter.
Plans had to be altered after a campaign by Nuveen, developer of the neighbouring St James Quarter, over the venue’s potential impact on its scheme.
The height of the building had to be significantly reduced and a second performance space dropped from the project.
