Oxford is close to catching up Cambridge as Britain’s leading centre for high-technology industries.
A report estimates Oxfordshire’s high-technology employment at more than 26,400 staff in 73 companies. Cambridge claims about 30,000 employees in 1,000 businesses.
A previous research report identified the “Cambridge phenomenon”. This reported the growth of Cambridge as a high technology centre and dismissed Oxford as an also-ran, with one-sixth of the number of companies.
