Oxford University creates Begbroke cluster park

Oxford University is creating Begbroke Science Park on a 80.94 (200 acre) site north of the city.

It will be dedicated to materials research, nanotechnology and spin-off companies. Nanotechnology reduces engineering to atomic level, enabling the creation of application-specific materials.

Oxford University will be used as a model for economic development in the south-east to create 25-30 innovation centres and business support networks around research establishments, a conference at the Department of Trade and Industry heard. Lord Sainsbury, science minister, reiterated his call to allow a planning regime to enable such clusters to emerge.
