Oxygen Activeplay to open flagship centre in York

Indoor trampoline park operator Oxygen Activeplay is set to open its latest concept in 20,000 sq ft of space previously occupied by Argos at the Clifton Moor Retail Park in York.

Oxygen York will open in February as the flagship for its new “Activeplay” concept and represents a £2.3m investment. Set over ground floor and mezzanine levels, it will offer parkour bounce zones, inflatable obstacle courses, various climbing challenges, party rooms and a dedicated sensory baby and toddler park. The venue will also include a quiet lounge for parents and families, as well as a food and drink offer. Oxygen Activeplay said it is investing in enhanced team training and the latest check-in and space management technology.

The York site forms part of a £10m investment programme focusing on the physical parks, the team, technology and infrastructure implemented by Oxygen Activeplay over the past two years to support the brand’s continued national growth. Leisure leasing agency Stärka has been instructed to secure more new locations around the country as Oxygen Activeplay looks to roll out the concept.

Stephen Wilson, managing director at Oxygen Activeplay, said: “The size and location of the space, combined with the scale of York’s catchment, have provided us with the opportunity to really stretch our concept, introducing new elements and other enhancements that will create a unique experience in the sector and serve as our flagship. We see this as the beginning of an exciting next chapter for the brand and are now focused on working with other leading landlords to secure more brand-new sites as we roll out Oxygen Activeplay in other key locations around the UK.”

Oxygen Activeplay’s £10m investment to date includes the redesigned Oxygen Croydon, which reopened in April this year following a £1.2m refurbishment. It joined other refurbished parks including Acton in west London, Wilmslow in Cheshire and Rayleigh in Essex, which together have received more than £5m of investment. Those sites that have undergone investment are performing in excess of 20% up on the prior year’s revenue, the company said.

Stärka acted on behalf of Oxygen. CSP Rental represented the landlord, Clifton Moor Retail III.
