P&O Properties is suggesting Peddimore West be earmarked in regional planning guidelines for major inward investment. The 56.4ha (140 acre) site near the A38 Minworth bypass is opposite Birmingham Council’s proposed Peddimore East site.

An earlier Siemens requirement was lost to the North East partly because the West Midlands could not offer a site large enough. Local agents are afraid that if land is not identified for large-scale development the same could happen with outstanding requirements lilke Goldstar’s planned £1.5bn electronics plant and Hyundai ‘s £850m planned microchip plant.

Phil Cox, director of P&O Properties warns that Birmingham still does not have a site of suitable size and specification: “Most American and Pacific Rim firms insist on Greenfield sites and rule out brownfield for redevelopment. The big inward investors, with the whole of Europe to choose from, prefer to be sole occupiers on the best sites, not wishing to be located on a multi-occupier business park schemes.”
