The break-up of one of the finest farming estates in Scotland is finally set to go ahead.
Angus Estates, the successful purchaser from CGNU of the 5,494ha (13,575-acre) Panmure Estate at Carnoustie in Scotland, has reached agreement with many of the tenants wishing to buy their own farms.
It is to relaunch the residue, comprising 580ha (1,435 acres) with potential sites for principal houses in addition to about 18 existing dwellings.
Angus Estates, advised by Langley-Taylor of Edinburgh, is believed to be paying a price in excess of £21m for the estate. Cluttons acted for CGNU.
Panmure was billed as one of the great British estates, with 50 tenanted farms and 50% of its land comprising some of the best soil in Scotland. It saw two failed attempts by entrepreneurial bidders over the winter, who faced public outcry amid accusations of “irregular” approaches to tenants and uncertain financial track records.
