The mayor of Paris has been invited to the official opening of the new Manchester College building, in the district of Harpurhey, after a £9m redevelopment.
It is a former Edwardian bathhouse, dominated by a chimney built in 1910 which civic officials says has similarities with the Eiffel Tower. They have requested a friendship agreement with Paris that would see them “twinned”.
