Peace deal agreed in Soho’s Chinatown

Relations between Robert Bourne’s Rosewheel and the tenants at the site of its proposed redevelopment in Chinatown, WC2, began to thaw this week.

Tenants, who will have to move out of the Sandringham Building, fronting Charing Cross Road, from March to make way for the scheme, met privately with Rosewheel managing director Richard Bowen.

Restaurant owner Stanley Cheung, who had planned to take Rosewheel to court, said he was now close to a settlement with the developer. Bowen said he felt very positive about the meeting.

However, civil rights group Min Quan continues to oppose the redevelopment.
