Peel appoints its representative to UK Coal board

Peel Holdings has appointed its own representative to the UK Coal board.

Peel, chaired by John Whittaker, holds a 24.5% stake in UK Coal. It said it did not intend to mount a bid for the company.

Seymour Pierce said the board appointment should lead to a greater ability for the two companies to work together in the extraction and realisation of value from their coal and property assets.

Meanwhile, Peel’s 12.3% stake in Pinewood Shepperton could serve as an extension of Whittaker’s media ambitions but, with its large property holdings, the film studios seem likely to offer development opportunities, according to the Financial Times.
