Peel Lifestyle Outlets has submitted a planning application for a 350,000 sq ft mixed-use development at Glasgow Harbour.
The proposed £100m investment would see the creation of Glasgow Harbour Lifestyle Outlet, comprising shops, a cinema, restaurants and cafés.
The leisure-led development would also feature a waterfront promenade, a gym, family leisure facilities, a public square and event space along the river Clyde.
Proposals to regenerate the 74-acre site were initially granted planning permission in principal in 2008.
Peel Lifestyle Outlets managing director Jason Pullen said: “Shopping has evolved to become a major leisure activity. We are creating the next generation of outlet destination by delivering a balanced combination of exciting leisure and entertainment with a strong retail offering.
“The initial £100m investment, as well as delivering crucial construction and retail jobs, represents the next step in fulfilling the Glasgow Harbour masterplan, and we’re excited to bring more life back to Glasgow’s Clydeside.”
If approved, the outlet is estimated to generate gross GVA of around £45m per year within the local economy when it completes in 2021, and create 2,000 retail and leisure jobs.
The first phase of the Glasgow Harbour masterplan was completed by Peel Group in 2008. It resulted in the construction of 1,100 apartments on the site of the former Meadowside Granary, which was demolished in 2002.
The masterplan involves a substantial investment in infrastructure, the creation of hundreds of waterfront homes, retail and leisure opportunities, as well as a commercial district.
