John Whittaker’s Peel Group is set to submit plans for the £650m mixed-use redevelopment of 26 acres of brownfield land at Chatham Docks in Kent.
The Chatham Waters scheme will provide an employment-led, mixed-use redevelopment of the site, including office space, educational facilities, an “Event City” and a hotel, alongside flats and townhouses. It will also include landscaped public areas and a supermarket. Peel said the development has the potential to create 3,500 jobs.
Peel has completed a public consultation of the proposals at which 90% of those questioned indicated support for the scheme. The developer will submit an outline planning application to Medway council in November.
James Whittaker, development director at Peel, said, “We were overwhelmed by the public’s positive feedback, which will not only transform a huge swathe of the dock area, but will also provide desperate refurbishment to the dock itself. We’re committed to breathing life back into Chatham and this will not only create jobs and homes but will transform the landscape.”
Indigo Planning, Planit ie, the Traffic Transport & Highway Consultancy and 5 Plus Architects are advising Peel on the scheme.
