Peel Land and Property’s £1bn development, Trafford Waters, has been approved by Trafford Council.
The scheme includes 3,000 flats, a 300-bedroom hotel, a 150-bed care home, 750,000 sq ft of offices, 125,000 sq ft of shops and a primary school.
The neighbourhood will be built out over the next 20 years across 50 acres of land on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal.
Peel has committed to putting £30m towards the new extended A57 road into Trafford at junction 10 of the M60, which includes a new lifting bridge link crossing the Manchester Ship Canal adjacent to Barton Bridge.
Councillor Sean Anstee, leader of Trafford Council, said the development has “all of the characteristics to be a model for urban regeneration” and the creation of a high quality place that people choose to live and work.
