Persimmon buys giant Littlehampton site

Hampton Park Littlehampton 570p

Persimmon has bought a major development with consent for 1,200 homes from a consortium of landowners led by Greencore Group.

The 220-acre plot in Littlehampton, West Sussex, is known as Hampton Park.

The site currently accommodates more than 5.3m sq ft of glasshouses and the development would represent a major extension to the north of the seaside town.

It was granted outline planning consent two years ago.

The consent also includes 140,000 sq ft of shops, commercial and community and leisure space, as well as new infrastructure to support the development.

Persimmon plans to submit a revised matters application to Arun district council for the first phase of the scheme shortly.

CBRE and Burton Property led the sale on behalf of Greencore and the other landowners.

CBRE senior director Mark Budden said: “This project has been many years in the making and Persimmon Homes’ purchase will now enable the development to commence.

“There has been much local support for this landmark site, which will bring essential new road infrastructure and inward investment to the town.

“The vision for the scheme was provided by Burton Property and Greencore Group, whose tenacity and skill enabled the scheme to become a reality. We were delighted to assist in arranging a sale of this complex site to Persimmon Homes which will make an ideal delivery partner.”
