Persimmon profit up 65%

Persimmon has reported a 65% increase in pre-tax profit to £98.7m in its half-year results.

The housebuilder said net asset per share increased 4% and revenue was 13% ahead at £806m. House sales were up 6%, selling 4,712 homes compared with 4,439 in the same period last year. It also increased the average price by 7%.

Persimmon said it has acquired 50 new sites with up to 5,779 new plots in the first half of the year, which, based on current sales, represents more than 6.5 years’ supply of homes.

It said the first half results “reflected the early success” of its strategy to grow into a stronger, larger business while returning up to £1.9bn of surplus cash to shareholders.
