York Place Buildings and the Royal Academy of Dance have agreed to build a new home for the academy in Wandsworth, SW11, alongside 275 flats.
The scheme on 198 York Road, SW11, will be developed in exchange for the RAD’s existing home at 36 Battersea Square, SW11, where it has planning permission to build 34 flats and five town houses.
Wandsworth Council has approved plans for the York Road site, which is currently occupied by a Homebase Warehouse.
Ravi Govindia, leader of Wandsworth Council, said: “The new headquarters represents a major attraction and we will be working closely with the academy in the coming months to help more local people get involved with its work.”
The scheme has been designed by architects Patel Taylor, and will include seven studios, performance space with movable seating, office space, a library and two cafés.
It will open in 2020, coinciding with the RAD’s 100th anniversary.
York Place Buildings is an affiliate of Weinbergers Investments, a London-based property developer of residential and offices founded in 2013 and backed by private investors
