PFI tax loophole closed

The Department of Health has closed a tax loophole for contractors.

The move could save the government tens of millions of pounds on building PFI hospitals.

Contractors will have to pass straight to NHS trusts the benefits of a new scheme which will allow more generous tax allowances for special purpose funding vehicles commonly used to handle PFI contracts. It is likely to be extended to other PFI sectors if successful.
