Pfizer closes Kent plant with 2,400 job losses

Pharmaceuticals group Pfizer is set to close its research and development campus in Sandwich, Kent, in a move which will make the majority of the 2,400 staff employed there redundant.

The closure of the factory, which created the drug Viagra, is part of a reorganisation of Pfizer’s research and development across the world.

The company is hoping to transfer several hundred positions to other sites or other companies doing work for Pfizer.
