Phoenix rises in Leicester

Leicester’s Phoenix Square will open its doors to the public tomorrow.

The £21.5m development, which is a collaboration between the public and private sectors including Blueprint, Leicester city council and the East Midlands Development Agency (emda), comprises a cinema, a café bar and the DMU Cube – an interactive digital art gallery – as well as 63 flats, 22 workspaces, seven two-storey office studios and eight incubation units for creative businesses.

The project forms part of the city’s new creative community known as the Cultural Quarter, the area which already features the recently completed performing arts centre The Curve.

Patrick Kitterick, Leicester city council’s cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: “Our vision for regenerating St George’s through a culture-led regeneration programme is now taking shape.”
