Eric Pickles has ordered an environmental impact assessment of 271 homes in Liverpool’s Dingle district.
The homes are in the Welsh Streets area and include the two-up-two-down birthplace of The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr. The communities secretary decided to act following a plea by Save Britain’s Heritage. The city council served notice for demolition last summer.
