Communities secretary Eric Pickles has cleared the way for the redevelopment of Elizabeth House, SE1, after deciding not to call in the project.
The 29-storey scheme on York Road was approved by councillors in 2012, but the project was referred back to the council in 2014 after Westminster council and Unesco lodged a legal challenge.
London & Regional and Chelsfield then re-submitted the scheme, including 142 flats and 950,000 sq ft of offices.
Lambeth councillor Lib Peck said: “This is great news and I hope means an end to costly and lengthy delays to a once-in-a-generation opportunity for jobs, homes and investment in the area.
“Lambeth council has always believed the Elizabeth House development is absolutely consistent with the government’s National Planning Policy Framework, it is fully supported by the mayor of London and will bring considerable economic, social and cultural benefits to the area.”
