Pioneer Group’s plans to deliver a freeport development scheme at its Wilton Centre in Teesside have been given the thumbs-up.
The proposed scheme comprises 148,000 sq ft of space across 16 facilities providing technical development space, a two-storey incubator building containing shared lab facilities and fully equipped laboratories, and five offices.
The size of the suites will range from 200 sq ft to 20,000 sq ft.
The facilities will also have access to the main Wilton Centre, measuring 450,000 sq ft, featuring a restaurant, gym and wellbeing centre, lecture theatre and events spaces.
Steve Duffield, site director at Wilton Centre, said: “This is great news for Teesside, Wilton Centre and the scientists, researchers and support staff who will hopefully be working here in the not-too-distant future.”
Richard O’Boyle, chief executive at Pioneer, added: “North Yorkshire and Teesside are quietly leading the UK’s charge in alternative proteins and industrial biotech. The future of food and science is already being built here. What it needs now is backing.
“At Pioneer, we see the momentum every day. Our Wilton site is a hub for advanced materials and bio-based solutions, working with CPI and a growing ecosystem of partners.”
Last year, Pioneer appointed Carter Jonas and Dodds Brown to find occupiers for its site.
