Pipe calls in Master Brewer resi

Jules Pipe has called in Inland Homes’ plans for the redevelopment of the former Master Brewer site, which was refused by Hillingdon Council last month.

London’s deputy mayor will act as the local planning authority and decide on the consent for the 514-flat scheme.

Pipe has called in the scheme due to the scale of the development and its significant impact towards housing delivery in the London Plan.

While Hillingdon has met its housing target, Pipe noted that it has failed to deliver sufficient affordable housing. He added that the scheme would also provide valuable contributions to employment and public realm.

Hillingdon Gardens would provide 179 affordable homes on the brownfield site, equating to 35% of the housing.

The council refused the scheme at committee in February, stating that plans were not in keeping with the local area, next to the green belt and with excessive height and density, adding it had insufficient parking and would create too much traffic in the area. It received 266 objections and two consultations in support.

The development will now be debated at a public hearing on a date to be confirmed.
