Places for People and Countryside have agreed the first project as part of a partnership to deliver 10,000 homes over 10 years.
The partners have signed a development agreement that will see Countryside deliver a £230m scheme in Lower Herne Village, in Kent.
The development comprises 800 homes, including 240 affordable homes at the site of the former Strode Farm. Plans are currently pending a decision from Canterbury City Council.
Andrew Usher, managing director of partnerships in South London for Countryside, said: “This is a crucial step in our regional expansion and growth strategy, and proof we can deliver high quality and sustainable mixed-tenure communities across the country.”
Countryside aims to grow the partnerships division from 3,000 homes a year to 8,000 within three years. The housebuilder has come under pressure from activist investors in recent months calling for new leadership and a restructuring. Last week it appointed new chairman John Martin to succeed David Howell next month.
