Property manager and developer Places for People has been selected for the £15m Chatsworth Gardens scheme at the seaside town of Morecambe, Lancashire, by national regeneration agency English Partnerships.

The residential development in the West End area will be based around two central garden squares, and the proposed 100 homes will be offered for market sale or shared ownership.

Proposals include 31 two bed houses, 39 three bed houses, 4 four bed houses and 18 one-bedroom apartments, along with some live-work units.

Paul Spooner, regional director for EP, said: “This scheme will help to reinvigorate the West End of Morecambe as an attractive and desirable place to live by the seaside.

“It will provide cutting edge new homes and help to rebalance the housig market in this area by reducing the numbers of bed sits. This will help support the town’s wider regeneration.”

The large number of flats and bed-sits in converted former guest houses has created problems in the town, including a high turnover of tenants, high levels of deprivation.

The Chatsworth Gardens scheme is part of the masterplan for the regeneration of Morecambe’s West End, funded by EP, following a public consultation.
