Planners back Salford’s first co-living tower

Salford Council has been recommended to back the construction of the city’s first co-living skyscraper, in the Greengate area.

The decision will be made during the planning committee meeting on 5 September.

Manchester-based Progressive Living Developments has proposed the scheme on land which is currently being used temporarily as a car park between an existing residential development and a railway viaduct.

The plans, designed by BDP, include the construction of a tower, split into 39 and 42 storeys, comprising a total of 568 studios, with a focus on providing quality, compact, affordable places to live for young professionals. There will also be large communal amenity spaces, including a landscaped roof terrace at level 38.

Progressive Living Developments has also lodged a separate planning application seeking approval for the redevelopment of the Grade II listed run of eight nearby railway arches to provide social and leisure space.

Turley is advising on planning matters.
