Planners push back on Aberdeen office-to-resi scheme

A developer aiming to turn a 1970s office block in Aberdeen city centre into 250 flats has been told to expand a proposed public consultation on the scheme.

Aberdeen-based Cater Group wants to redevelop Atholl House, close to the city’s train station, into flats and about 16,000 sq ft of retail space. The company lodged a proposal of application notice with the council earlier this month, outlining plans for a virtual public consultation.

The council’s planning committee, however, has said that the consultation plans are “insufficient for the development proposed”, and has told Cater and Aurora Planning to increase public notices of the consultation to bring in more views.

The office block has some 53,625 sq ft of space, according to Radius Data Exchange. The building was sold by London-listed CLS late last year.
