Planning permissions fall by 13%

Planning permissions have fallen by 12% over the quarter, with the number of commercial developments approved down 6%.

The fall extends a downward trend, with planning permissions granted for the year to date 13% lower than in the previous 12 months.

The number of commercial planning applications granted, 1,700 for the quarter, is down to levels not seen since the pandemic.

In the 12 months to the end of June, 8,000 decisions were made on applications for commercial developments, down 7% from the previous year.

Over the year, permission was given for 264,000 homes, down 8% from the 286,000 granted permission in the previous 12-month period.

The number of applications received were down by 14% over the quarter and 13% over the year.
