Manchester’s Stepping Hill Hospital is to improve its emergency and urgent care services with the construction of a £30m campus.
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is investing in a new facility to transform the hospital’s A&E unit. This will include a new paediatric emergency department along with enhanced mental health and same-day emergency medical care provision.
The hospital’s facade will also be extended to accommodate a larger ambulance and patient reception.
The development is expected to increase the size of the current clinical area by more than 3,230 sq ft. Work is due to start on site later this year.
Planning and development consultancy Lichfields secured permission on behalf of the trust.
Imogen Zulver, senior planner in Lichfields’ Manchester office, said: “The new campus opens a fresh chapter for quality healthcare provision in the south Manchester area, which has been designed to centre around patients’ needs and provide a facility that will benefit the community for decades to come.”
