Spot Property has gained consent from Southwark Council for a part redevelopment of the Butterfly Walk Shopping Centre in Camberwell, SE5, which includes a hotel and 145 new homes.
Local ward councillors raised concerns about daylight regarding a number of nearby residential windows, but the committee ultimately approved the proposals earlier this week.
The three-acre scheme involves creating three new blocks that will reconfigure the existing shopping centre and Morrisons supermarket.
Those new buildings will consist of a 101-bedroom hotel, a two-screen cinema, a small community facility and the new homes, 36% of which is affordable housing.
The residential mix, which totals around 158,000 sq ft, comprises three studios, 35 one-bedroom homes, 74 two-bedroom homes and one four-bedroom home.
Under the proposals, the circa 77,000 sq ft of existing retail space at the location will be reduced to 55,400 sq ft of flexible retail floorspace across 15 stores and the supermarket.
The hotel will take up around 42,000 sq ft, while the cinema will measure nearly 8,800 sq ft. The total floorspace at the location will increase by 45%.
Judd Planning is advising the owners on the scheme.
