Plans approved for major 620-home Reading scheme

Hermes Property Unit Trust has gained outline consent for a 620-home development at a former Royal Mail depot in Reading, which includes a 24-storey tower.

The scheme, at Caversham Road, proposes 72 studio flats and 196 one-bed, 320 two-bed and 32 three-bed homes across seven towers, as well as townhouses. Some 15.8% of the residential aspect, which totals nearly 600,000 sq ft, will be affordable housing.

The scheme will provide a further two office buildings measuring a combined 212,360 sq ft. The plans also include retail and community spaces including health centre uses.

Proposals for the scheme, which were approved by Reading Borough Council last week, were initially filed in 2018.
