Plans approved for York Minster neighbourhood

York Minster’s neighbourhood plan is set to be adopted by the city council after securing support from the local community. The plan will provide a 15-year roadmap for the minster and its 7ha estate.

Alex McCallion, director of works and precinct at York Minster, said: “It sets out an ambitious masterplan to sustain and enhance the cultural significance and environmental value of York Minster’s precinct and its buildings through specially created planning policy.”

Key projects include a centre of excellence for heritage craft skills and estate management, new visitor facilities, a new public square, a new discovery and learning centre, and a museum.
