Updated plans for the redevelopment of the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital site have been unveiled.
Developer Groveworld is looking to demolish the existing site at 330 Gray’s Inn Road, WC1, and erect five new buildings rising to 13 storeys in height.
The proposals designed by AHMM include a 190-room hotel in a five to 13-storey building with restaurant and café and a nine storey office block, which would also provide some affordable workspace.
In addition, 73 residential units would be created over two blocks with a shared central garden. Of the resi units, 35% would be affordable by habitable room.
One block six storeys high would face Swinton Street and house the affordable homes, while another 12-storey block on Wicklow Street would comprise the private homes.
The majority of the site would also have a basement underneath it.
Groveworld bought the 1.3 acre site of the former hospital in December 2018 from the Royal Free Charity for around £55m.
The site is now vacant after the decision was taken to relocate the hospital’s services earlier than planned owing to the coronavirus pandemic, which saw the hospital closed to patient admissions.
