Plans have been submitted for the £1bn redevelopment of the Fawley Power Station site in Hampshire.
Two separate outline planning applications to New Forest District Council and New Forest National Park Authority seek permission for 1,500 homes and 1.1m sq ft of commercial, civic and employment space.
The development vehicle Fawley Waterside acquired the site from RWE npower in 2015. The company was founded and is managed by Long Harbour’s Aldred Drummond.
Drummond owns the Cadland Estate, which includes the power station site, and has received further finance from a syndicate of investors.
He said: “The task over the last five years has been to plan a beautiful town that fits comfortably within a very sensitive and cherished landscape, one my family have been custodians of for 250 years. I hope these plans demonstrate both a sensitivity and ambition that leaves the land in better health because of this project.”
Fawley Power Station was the showcase plant for the Central Electricity Generating Board. It had the world’s largest cooling pumps and in the 1970s and 1980s was the UK’s most efficient power station. It was also used for filming Solo: A Star Wars Movie, Red Dwarf and Mission Impossible 5.
