Plans in for £250m Salford data centre
Digital Land & Development has submitted plans for a £250m data centre in Salford, Greater Manchester.
The plans will see a six-acre site, formerly home to the Whites’ recycling centre off Liverpool Road, transformed into 66,000 sq ft facility.
The scheme would also include 12,000 sq ft of offices, a 56,000 sq ft data hall and 63,500 sq ft of plant.

Peel Waters, which bought the Whites’ recycling centre in 2012, already has planning permission to redevelop the site as a 110,000 sq ft industrial scheme, featuring eight sheds.
However, Digital Land now wants to build a “high-quality data centre” on the site.
Planning documents submitted with the application say the UK needs “significant levels of new data centre capacity” to keep pace with the rapid changes happening in the world of technology.
Philip Kaye, co-founder of Greater Manchester data centre firm Vespertec, said: “Greater Manchester has long been fertile ground for data centre companies to bloom. I have spent nearly two decades in the industry, watching Manchester slowly but surely grow into a fully mature hub for data centre technologies.
“With local authorities now fully on board and in the know, nowhere is better placed to meet the skyrocketing demand for digital infrastructure and ensure that the future of the industry benefits everyone.”
