Manchester-based development and investment company Cert Property has submitted a planning application to redevelop a 35,000 sq ft office building in the city’s Northern Quarter.
Designed by Stephenson Studio, the proposals for Hilton House, which is on the corner of Hilton Street, Tariff Street and Port Street, include refurbishing the internal space to offer flexible office space and co-working space for SMEs. The ground floor will continue to be used as a bar and restaurant.
The plans also include adding a new façade, a 2,250 sq ft extension to the top two floors and a “secret garden” to the rear of the property.
Howard Lord, managing director of Cert Property, said: “Hilton House is a true rough diamond awash with original features that give it a distinctive personality, including a striking spiral staircase and parquet flooring throughout. The external design is deliberately bold; the dark grey and corten steel creates a palette which reflects the rebellious nature of the Northern Quarter.
“I was born and raised here in Manchester and have always been passionate about restoring life to the neglected buildings in our city – in particular in the Northern Quarter. A great deal of consideration has been given to these plans as we have worked to retain the original characteristics of the building whilst improving its offering.”
