Plans in for precious metals facility in Birmingham

Switzerland-headquartered Metalor Technologies has submitted plans to build offices and laboratories at Longbridge Business Park in Birmingham.

The manufacturer is set to invest £15m into a new precious metals hub, measuring 22,000 sq ft.

The facility is expected to be used for analysis and research and development of decorative and technical applications serving industries such as automotive, aerospace and medical.

Construction is due to start at the end of 2024, subject to planning consent.

Longbridge Business Park, the regeneration of the former West Works factory, is being brought forward by St Modwen. The region is rapidly gaining a reputation for being a specialist centre for science, technology, medicine, precision engineering and the R&D sector.

Existing occupiers on the park include IVC Evidensia, Waters Corporation, Allsee Technologies and Sterling Pharmaceutical.

The park forms a part of the wider £1bn Longbridge masterplan, which includes a new residential neighbourhood.

Rob Flavell, director at St Modwen, said: “It’s good news for the local and regional economies and will ensure that the work undertaken by St Modwen in recent years will benefit the area for many years to come.”
