Plans in for Salford Rise’s green corridor

Crescent – a partnership between Salford City Council, the University of Salford and the English Cities Fund – has filed plans for new infrastructure and public realm in Salford, Greater Manchester.

The project is a part of a wider 240-acre masterplan that is set to deliver more than 3,000 homes, over 1m sq ft of innovation space, 1m sq ft of offices, retail, leisure, and a new multi-modal transport hub.

Salford Rise will be a 90m long green boulevard, stretching over Fredrick Road, together with adjacent public realm for events and activities. It was designed by Make Architects, with construction set to kick off in summer.

Maggie Grogan, development director at ECF, said: “Essentially people make place and Salford Rise will remove a significant barrier to movement across the wider masterplan, enabling the delivery of Crescent Innovation, bringing communities in the surrounding area together, while connecting them to the opportunities to thrive and prosper.”

Crescent Innovation is a key component of the Salford Innovation Triangle, which will focus on creating a research, development and innovation campus that will sit at the northern gateway of Salford Rise. Work is already under way at three university facilities at the North of England Robotics Innovation Centre, the Science, Engineering and Environment Building and Energy House 2.0.

The project has received a £13.2m investment as a share of a £100m government fund for Greater Manchester to create an innovation accelerator.
