Sheffield Football Club has revealed plans to transform Sheffield Transport Sports Club into a regional sports hub.
Proposals for the construction of a new 5,070-capacity stadium on the site at Greenhill Main Road, to be shared by Sheffield FC and Sheffield Eagles rugby league club, were lodged with the council last month.
The two sports clubs have formed a joint venture to bring the development forward, although the planning proposals have only been lodged on behalf of Sheffield FC.
The scheme, which has been designed in collaboration with the relevant national governing bodies, and features four stands: North Stand, with capacity for 850 people standing; East Stand, with capacity for 1,185 standing; South Stand, with capacity for 850 standing; and West Stand with 2,185 seats.
West Stand will comprise two floors and will include the teams’ and officials’ changing rooms, kit store, and drug testing facilities.
On the ground floor there will also be a heritage centre for Sheffield Football Club.
At first floor level there will be offices associated with the running of the club as well as the match day control room and media room. The spectators and directors lounge are also planned at first floor level, including an ancillary bar and kitchen.
Other facilities to be delivered on the 21-acre site include a football academy with 3G pitches; a 540-seat indoor sports hall; new cricket facilities; parking; and landscaping.
Sheffield FC is aiming for the stadium to be open for the 2025-26 football season.
DLP is advising the club on planning matters. The project has been designed by Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson.
