Plans in for Staines’ Debenhams resi

Detailed plans have been filed for the residential development of the Debenhams in Staines.

Future High Street Living bought the riverside development opportunity in the town centre from Canada Life for £13m in October.

The site currently holds a 113,376 sq ft department store built in the 1960s. FHSL bought the 0.66-acre site as part of its strategy to redevelop old retail sites.

The developer has proposed 226 new homes in a 14-storey buildings comprising two towers. The plans include a mix of one- and two-bedroom homes, with commercial space on the ground floor. There will be 23 affordable homes and 20,000 sq ft of amenity space, including outdoor space and balconies.

The Debenhams store was marked for closure earlier this year and has been allocated for redevelopment within Spelthorne Council’s new local plan.

Cerda Planning is advising FHSL.
