Plans in for Watkin Jones’ Glasgow giant

Watkin Jones has submitted revised plans for 685 BTR and co-living homes at Portcullis House in Glasgow’s Charing Cross area.

The resi-for-rent developer wants to demolish the former HMRC office on India Street to make way for a 279-home BTR development to the north of the site, adjacent to Charing Cross station, and a 406-studio co-living development to the south of the site, next to the Scottish Power building.

While the Hawkins Brown-designed scheme will still be the largest BTR development in Glasgow, it has been scaled down from the 750 homes initially proposed in August last year.

Watkin Jones’ planning director, Iain Smith, said that “the design of our proposed homes will help to keep skilled young people in the city”, boosting Glasgow’s economy.

He added: “These people are actively looking for a sustainable and desirable place to live in a central location with excellent transport links and places to shop or socialise. This will repopulate the city centre and benefit local businesses as part of an overall renewal of the west end.”
